What this means for your revision

Aim above the line

The pass mark has sat between 66.9% and 72.5% of scored questions. Aim for a steady 75% or more in timed mocks so a harder paper doesn’t catch you out.

The pass mark follows the paper

It is set for each sitting through standard setting. A lower pass mark usually means a harder paper, so don’t pick a sitting hoping for an easy one.

Know the 160-question format

Since October 2025 there are 128 clinical knowledge, 16 evidence-based practice and 16 organisation and management questions. The non-clinical sections are small but count.

Common questions

What is the AKT pass mark?+

The pass mark for the most recent sitting, AKT 60 in July 2026, was 112 out of 160 (70.0%). Since the AKT moved to 160 questions in October 2025, the pass mark has ranged from 107 to 112.

What percentage do you need to pass the AKT?+

There is no fixed percentage. Across every sitting since October 2022, the pass mark has fallen between 66.9% and 72.5% of scored questions. Scoring consistently above 75% in timed practice gives you a sensible margin.

What is the AKT pass rate?+

73.2% of all candidates passed AKT 60, and 86.2% of UK graduates sitting for the first time. Since October 2022 the overall pass rate has ranged from 62.5% to 80.2%.

Why does the AKT pass mark change between sittings?+

The RCGP sets the pass mark separately for each sitting through standard setting, so it reflects how difficult that particular paper was. A lower pass mark usually means a harder paper, not an easier exam.

How many questions are in the AKT?+

Since AKT 57 (October 2025) the AKT has 160 questions: 128 on clinical knowledge, 16 on evidence-based practice and 16 on organisation and management. Earlier sittings had 200 questions.

How much does the AKT cost?+

The RCGP fee is £494 for sittings from 1 January to the end of July 2027. See our pricing page for the full fee details.
