Standard Error & the Central Limit Theorem

Crucial distinction: SD (spread of individuals) vs SEM (precision of the mean estimate). SEM = SD/√n. Larger n → smaller SEM → narrower CIs. CLT: sample means are normally distributed even if the underlying data isn't. This underpins CIs and significance testing. Exam tip: SD describes the sample, SEM describes confidence in the mean.
